As Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Frank Scarpino leads the company’s technical team through all hardware and software development for the balanceback™ System, as well as overseeing all client technical support. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Dayton.
Prior to joining balanceback™ he was Division Manager of both the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and the Flight Controls Division. During his time with the Air Force, Dr. Scarpino managed the development of advanced communications and navigation systems. He oversaw Air Force’s first in-flight, real time information management system; a multiple-processor, software-intensive systems for use on high performance fighter aircraft.
Dr. Scarpino’s publication history includes authoring the book VHDL and AHDL Digital Systems Implementation (Prentice Hall Professional Technical Reference) He is also co-author of recent papers on the manufacturing of high-speed, high electron mobility (25 GHz), gallium-arsenide transistors, wavelet processing methods and the science of producing quality, error-free software. And most recently, the book VHDL and Verilog HDL Digital System Implementation Published by Prentice Hall.

Dr. Martin is a leading interventional radiologist — a sub specialty of radiology that uses minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in most organ systems.

Dr. William R. Martin brings more than 30 years of clinical experience to the balanceback executive team in his role as Medical Director. Dr. Martin is a leading interventional radiologist — a sub specialty of radiology that uses minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose and treat diseases in most organ systems.
This cutting-edge technique is often the least invasive way to provide treatment, which minimizes patient risk and improves patient health outcomes. Interventional radiologists can now treat many conditions that previously required surgery, reducing infection rates, recovery time and the duration of hospital stays.
Dr. Martin completed a four-year internship and residency program at Stanford University after graduating from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He also has an impressive publication history, including “Restoration of disk height through non-surgical spinal decompression,” which can be found in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2912793/).
Mr. Mackie received his Juris Doctor from the Creighton School of Law, Omaha, Nebraska. Mr. Mackie has worked at the highest levels of the federal government as both a lawyer and policy advisor. He served as Chief Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Rules in Washington DC and advised members on matters before the powerful Ways and Means Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. His public policy responsibilities included issues such as national defense, judiciary matters including constitutional law, banking and monetary policies, federal election law, and protecting the commercial business interests of the Senate. He has advised some of most senior members of Congress including Senate Party Leaders.
Dr. Gruttadauria received his Master’s degree from the University of Buffalo and a Doctorate degree from the University of Florida. Dr. Sal, as he is called by his patients, is an adjunct professor at the University of Buffalo and serves as the Clinical Director.
